5th Ward, in which preside, at the polls held in the old Congregational church, next block above my residence -- Sam and Alf also voted there, casting the first vote of their life -- Mine was Republican as always -- Some passengers, and newspaper & express got around the destroyed tunnel 13, On foot, or otherwise and got cars through to Reno -- this morning and during the day -- PM I wrote No 9 for Wells Herald, 5 pages, and got it off in east bound train at 8:40, the regular time -- Election passed off very quietly -- and when I went home to bed at 11, the vote counting indicated Republican victory --

Wednesday Nov 9

Same -- one train with mails, passengers, etc, from the west arrived about 5 PM & passed east -- only one today -- Everything has to be transferred around the destroyed tunnel & will for the next week or two -- or until it is reconstructed -- badly caved in places -- 900 ft long -- Washoe County returns complete -- Republican principally, & McMillan, governor, but returns from the extreme eastward counties, not so favorable -- Bed 11 -- very cold & freezing -- Eva Greenwood was one of the old time boss demi monde at Virginia City --
