High Schools of Va and Reno visited them today -- None of my folks were along -- Bed at 12 -- feeling sad and lonely -- The great "Uncle Josh Spruceby" company -- "Dave B Levin's big production" "Grand Operatic Orchestra, carload Special Machinery, Novel Mechanical Effects -- The Great Sawmill Scene, 52 people, Big Band, etc showed at Opera House this evening to good audience -- I didn't go -- They had big street parade at noon, but Senate being in session we didn't see any of it --

Saturday March 2

Variable -- pleasant -- My busiest day -- Rose at 5:30 -- wrote 5 page letter to Gardnerville Record and mailed it at 10 -- reported Senate from 11 to 1 when it adjourned till Monday -- reported for the News and Appeal as well -- Assembly held PM session and adjourned also till Monday -- PM I wrote 5 long page letter to Salt Lake Tribune and mailed it on evening train -- Evening about town -- Bed 12 --

Same -- Sent 3 page letter to wife -- Bed 12

Monday March 4

Clear and springlike -- The grass grows greener on the Capitol lawns, et al -- Busiest day of my legislative reporting, incidentally having it to do,

both Houses, for both Carson papers as well as the Reno Journal, and an extra amount at that, both Houses being unusually industrious -- I was all right in Saturday's Reno Ledger, on "Legislative Gossip," little over a column -- I find in the Ledger the following 2 items: Mrs Webber is widow of old Dr Webber whom everybody on the Comstock used to know so well -- And "Tony" Gandolfo was my old Austin friend of Crescenzo & Gandolfo, International Hotel proprietors, Austin -- Bed 12 -- clear & fine --

Tuesday March 5

Clear and very pleasant & springlike -- Hard days work at my double reporting -- Hal Mighels has returned from San Francisco, but leaves me to do his reporting as yet -- Letter from wife with $15 -- Paid my grub bills and squared up to March 1 for room rent $4 -- "The Telephone girl" was played at Opera House this evening, by a very good traveling company -- to a good house -- Dennis Canny, a good friend of mine died at his residence here last night of pneumonia -- Aged 53 yrs, native of Ireland -- leaves a wife here -- Been section boss on the V & T RR for some years past -- Everybody knew him -- Too good a man to lose -- But has gone -- Bed at 12 -- clear -- Carson Lottery Syndicate wins $5 approximation prize in Beneficencia lottery, list received today -- My Saturday's letter

in SL Tribune of the 4th -- Monday -- quick work & time -- A few lines over a column, fine type, nonpareil, I think --

Wednesday March 6

Same -- Hard days work in my multifarious reportorial capacity but did it successfully and well -- Found that the Syndicate won $2.50 instead of $5.00 -- so I collected it and paid each member his one third -- 83 1/3 cents -- or 80 cts each, retaining the 10 cts extra in making change, for my Secretary salary -- Second dividend of the Syndicate for the present year or century -- Evening by special invitation I attended banquet at the Arlington given by citizens of Carson to the members of the Legislature -- Commenced shortly after 9 and closed at 12 -- 2 big tables occupying the whole big dining room -- Fresh shell oyster, turkey, salad, white wine and claret -- coffee, beef tea, fruit, cake & all that sort of thing -- Nevada State Band did fine music, Plenty of good talkers, etc -- Bed 1 -- Simeon Wenban, owner of the famous Wenban silver mine, Cortez district in Eureka county, Nev, and a well known heavy capitalist died yesterday in San Francisco.

squally in the Sierra -- Senate met at 10 AM for 1st time -- Both Houses worked well & long hours -- Senate till 4:20 PM and Assembly past 5 -- I tried to get off a 2 page letter to Reno Ledger but couldn't quite make the mail train with it -- Evening about town some -- Bed 12 -- clearing up --

Friday March 8

Clear cold & pleasant -- Sent my letter to the Ledger by 10 AM local train -- May yet be available in Saturday's issue -- Hard day's work with my double reporting legislature -- Evening I attended Opera House -- Minstrel show and concert of the Nevada State Band -- Crowded house -- Very good performance -- 30 on stage in first part, including about a dozen women wives and sisters of the band -- First part was regular up to the date minstrel show -- all blackface -- Rest variety, vaudeville -- songs -- instrumental solos -- overtures etc -- trapeze -- "Cynthia" a young girl dancing contortionist, peculiarly slim and good -- show out at 11:40 -- Bed at 1 -- tired -- See programme, last page of this book -- Band grand street parade & concert at noon --

Variable -- very windy from the SW -- Clouds of dust -- Very disagreeable day -- Hard day's work -- started in at 10:30 -- only had 1 hour nooning and then worked till 4:30 when Senate adjourned till 10:30 AM

Monday -- Rose at 7 this morning, wrote three page letter to the Gardnerville Record, going without any breakfast to get it off in mail at 10:30 in time on the Gardnerville stage -- Got letter from SL Tribune inclosing draft on WF & Co for $8.20 for letters published Feb 4, 26 1/2 inches $3.05 -- Feb 25, 22 1/2 inches $2.60, and March 4, 22 inches, $2.50 -- Total $8.20 -- But they missed paying me for my letter of Feb 15, 1/2 column -- Bed at 12 -- Starlight cold and very blustering and dusty -- My right testicle is terribly swollen to ten times normal size from some cause or other from yesterday -- I don't know -- Very sore and has to be slung up --

Sunday March 10

Cloudy, cold, blustering and disagreeable -- Sick day for me -- Morning I worked making a sling for my testicle, which troubles me badly -- Got chilled from a cold already started, with a restless night last night -- Was at Arlington and got warmed up, also got a big hot dose of brandy,

ginger, peppermint and other ingredients that Tim Dempsey the barkeeper knows how to fix up -- Then went and got some soup, hot coffee etc at Johnny Anderson's restaurant and went to my room, turned into bed and slept couple of hours good refreshing sleep -- got up feeling much better but still very stiff, lame and sore boned -- Evening at Arlington -- wrote and
