Variable -- stormy -- big blustering winds from the SW -- Strong shower of rain about 8 AM, but clouds broke for rest of the day -- Evening clear but very windy -- from the SW -- Evening at Livingstons hearing telegraphic report of big prize fight between Jeffries and Ruhlin at Mechanics Pavilion San Francisco -- Ruhlin beaten in five rounds -- fairly outclassed -- Bed at 11 -- Got letter from Wm Nelson of SL Tribune, for me to write up Nevada for New Years issue -- Bought me a new walking stick or cane today at Mrs Fox's store -- counterpart of my old Mike Conlon cane, which is worn too short -- Paid 4 bits for it -- old one cost $1.00 --
