The same -- Rose at 10 -- shaved -- down town & about 5 PM was at Postoffice & got letter from wife -- Wants to come up & go and see play of "Private Secretary" this evening, by the Madison Square Company, at Pipers Opera House -- telegraphed immediately to come along -- replied that it was "too late for train, will write tonight" -- Bed at 4 --

Friday July 3

The same -- warmer -- Busy on the mining report -- Got letter from wife enclosing pass -- Lots of flags up today and evening, for the 4th -- Lots of saloons open all night, with plenty of customers -- Play tonight was "The Professor" -- fair house -- Bed at 4 --

Saturday July 4

Clear & warm -- 83 deg -- We have to run a paper tomorrow, because from Friday to Tuesday would be too long an interval -- 2 holidays together wont do -- I telegraphed to Melville Curtis, Reno for full list of names of his company and band from Austin -- Replied "full list in Reveille of Thursday" -- Found it and

printed it tonight -- Wrote letter to wife enclosing pass & telling her to come
