Thanks for coming in today (and it was good to see Joan, even briefly, at lunch time)

I am so very sorry you have to feel as you do, though I can readily see why. Someday when this experience is all over, and I am at liberty to tell you and Joan, and other friends, what all has happened the past 3 months, then I think

you will realize that the actions for which you condemn me were only my unavoidable reactions to what was being thrown at me by outsiders in a very real battle for control of my program. I had to win, even if the cost has been heavy in loss of friendships I prized most highly. For

at stake was not just my personal future (this I could walk away from) but the investment and the hopes and plans of many fine people who believed I would not quit.

Anyhow I do appreciate all that you and Joan have done over the years to help, and I'll try to make up for the things that have happened.
