SEVENTEEN RIDGE TERRACE SHORT HILLS, NEW JERSEY

June 23

Dear Joan,

Six weeks in Nevada certainly doesn't prepare one for the humidity we're having. We have a water shortage but no lack of dampness.

I want to thank you and Harry for your great kindness. You certainly both put yourselves out to make a difficult time as pleasant as possible. I'm grateful to you both. Thank you also for the key ring. In time it should remind me only of the pleasant side of my stay at Donner Trail.

My first week back has been pretty hectic but my X-husband (no longer W -- Arthur Hadley's definitions) leaves today for a month on the west coast and things can only get better. At any rate he has behaved so badly that I can only be glad I made this decision. Human nature is a strange thing.

Give my best to Marilyn & Chris and all the gang. Happy Rodeo.

Affectionately,

Jean
