You've admired this Siamese lighter and I would like you to have it. It's really a selfish gesture because I want to leave something for you and Joan to remember me by.

I will always remember both of you with love and heartfelt gratitude. When I came to Donner Trail I was exhausted, I felt a total failure and I was terrified of a future alone and on my own. But due to Joan's

great awareness of this and your affectionate sympathy, I'm a human being again.
