About ten days before the day set for our
marriage, I had a nervous breakdown and
it was necessary to postpone the wedding
from October the first, nineteen twenty-one,
to November the twenty-third, nineteen
twenty-one. The first plan was that we
would go to live at his parents' home
indefinitely, but after my breakdown my
husband promised me a home of our own.

He misrepresented things to me, and
made me many promises he did not
keep. I was willing to overlook the promise
of a home of our own, since the promise
was made after my breakdown and
also because he felt he could not be
happy away from his mother, and she
with him away:
