169 Henry A Morton's 23rd Psalm.

Miss Howe is my teacher, I shall not pass. She maketh me to sit up all night and ponder; she leadeth me into long diagrams. She keepeth me still, and sayeth to refrain from whispering for her nerves' sake Yea, if I have not my history or Grammar essay, I am faint at heart, for she will "crown" me her voice and her frowns, thay scare me.

She calleth me down in class before the whole of the teachers; She asketh me if I have a "behind hand"; my knees faileth me.

Surely Grammar and History will follow me all the days of my life and I shall remain in the Arithmetic class forever.

Kimmel Address July 14. At Tuesday morning assembly, Prof. Herbert Kimmel of our faculty addressed a few remarks to us on the value and dignity of our profession. Mr Kimmel betrayed the spirit of a true schoolman in his exhortation to teachers to remain with their work and make theirs a higher profession instead of using it as a stepping stone to some other, so called, higher profession -- perhaps lawyer or doctor.

Let us take to heart his advice. Let us all strive a little harder to reach the goal of perfection. Let us strive to train our children to become such model, law abiding citizens, of so thoroughly hygienic habits that there no longer will be need for lawyers and M.Ds will go out of fashion.

July 14 Class in Sketching.

On Tuesday afternoon, July 14, the members of the drawing class spent a pleasant and profitable hour in the open with their instructor, Miss Hetchell.

One budding - genius had her hopes shattered when Miss Hetchel advised that she would be a greater success at painting barns than landscapes.

First Field Excursions July 14. A 4 p. m. the geography class, headed by Miss Day and armed with note books and umbrellas, set out from Manzanita Hall on the first field excursion of the summer School. Our destination was the city reservoir; about a mile and a half north west of the university, from which point accurate observations of the surrounding valley were to be taken for later discussion in class.

Nothing of note occurred until we reached the famous Evans

ranch near the reservoir. Here we met the foreman, who gave us a very interesting and instructive account of the farming industy of Truckee Meadows. From him we learned that most of the farmers here raise alfalfa because, in that crop there is greater profit for the amount of labor expended than in any other crop adapted to this region.

From the reservoir a study of the valley was made. So many turns had been taken before reaching this point that a number of the teachers were rather confused in the directions. Some had the S.P.R.R. running north and south and the sun setting in the east.

The topography of this section was dwelt upon, and note made of some of the fine buildings of which Reno may be justly proud. Samples of the vegetation and the soil (the latter gathered mainly on our shoes while jumping irrigating ditches) were collected

for closer observation and study in the class room.

The return home was made leisurely until some one announced that in just fifteen minutes the dinner bell would ring.

Immediately all was forgotten save the dinner we might have to forego, and we scattered in various directions each trying to selet the shortest route there to. The last the writer saw of Miss McIntyire and Miss Bishop, they were doing a Marathon across lots, their goal being the dining hall.

The Ghost Party. Tuesday evening at the regular story-telling hour instead of the usual assemblage of story tellers, the premises of Manzanita Hall were subjected to a reign of ghosts.

Whether they were the returned spirits of former students on the campus, gathering for an old time "rough house," or merely a collection of stray spirits
