H. E. Reid Talks.

Mr. H. E. Reid, President of the Board of Regents addressed us Wednesday morning. It was complimentary to learn from a man of so successful business experience that a little school teacher was one of his earliest inspirations.

We were interested in what he related of his recent trip east, especially so in the facts concerning the Domestic Science Department of the Kansas Agricultural College. If such a college that turns out graduate housekeepers by the thousands can boast of less than half a dozen divorce cases among them in twice that many years surely there must be some vital connection between good home-making and housekeeping ability and the insolubility of the marriage bond.

It is worthy of experimental investigation anyway.

(From the Reno Gazette.)

"Teachers and Students Appreciate Auto Ride.

The administration of the University Summer School for teachers wishes to express its appreciation and that of the faculty and students to Reno's generous and public spirited citizens, who so kindly aided in giving the members of the summer shcool an automobile ride last Wednesday evening. As each machine arrived it was filled quickly and rolled away upon its tour of the city. As each car returned later in the evening its passengers delcared they had the best ride of all.

The list of citizens who donated automobiles and to whom thanks is due, is the following: -- Judge A.E. Cheney, A.A. Codd, H. L. Nichols, Walter Palmer, Judge J.S. Orr, Dr. W. H. Hood, Miss Lola Stoddard, Mrs. E.J. Williams and Claude Wheeler."

Goodbye Supper.

After six weeks of real pleasure intermingled with our hard work the student body of the S.S. gave a delightfully informal banquet in honor of the faculty.

The tables were artistically decorated with sweet-peas and ferns, which together with the gay assemblage presented a very pleasing effect.

Mrs. Mary B. Bray acted as toastmistress of the evening. Mrs Jennice Smith toasted Supt. J.E. Bray; Miss Gloster, the Faculty; Miss Oakes, Acting-President Leavers; and Mr. Axt, the Deputy superintendents. Then followed college songs and yells by the boys of the summer school at the conclusion of which all joined in the 1914 S.S. Song.

Knights of Columbus.

The banquet over a large majority of the students, faculty and others wended their way to the S. Thomas Acquinas Hall. The Knight's of Columbus and Children of Mary's Sodality had extended an invitation to their evenings entertainment. For More than an hour Mr. Foley, from the Orpheum Circuit mystic-

fied and amused with his slight of hand performances. (We should like to inquire if they are a practical illustration of the fourth dimension; What says Prof. Haseman?)

This program over, delicious icecream and cake, in generous quantities, was served by the young ladies. The floor was then cleared for dancing. Owing to the ordeal of examinations to be gone through the next day we did not deem it prudent to stay till the close So after a few dances we made our departure, (Mrs. Bray says she was the "belle of the ball". Ask her why!)

Prizes.

The last assembly was given over to the student body. President Clerimond Withers announced the various winners of S.S Journal prizes. The prize contributions were read and each winner presented with a beautiful Nevada pennant amid the usual applause and good cheer characteristic of such occasions.

Following is the list of successful contestants, --

2. Nevada Poem, -- Marjorie McIntyre 3. Local Joke - Gertrude Wise 4. Illustrations -- Albert Axt 5. Local Story -- Henry Morton 6. Song -- (with original music) -- Nelda Oakes 7. School Yell -- Miss Clara Hetschel

When the prizes were all awarded, Miss Oakes at the piano, lead in the singing of her composition "Our Nevada", a most charming bit of melody. Then Miss Hetschel author of the prize yell took her place as "yell leader". The entire assemblage rose en masse and did the rest quite credibly. Here is the 1914 yell.

"Summer School, Summer School, ha! ha! ha! Sagebrush, Sagebrush, rah! rah! rah! Sagebrush summer School we will be, Ture and loyal unto thee."

In Conclusion.

Through out the Summer School of 1914 the work in the different courses has been uniformly of the best. We feel sure that the teachers who attended have increased their efficiency at least fifty fold. They will go back to their schools with
