Rose at 5.45. Attended Bank. Ap-
pearances alarming. Considerable curtail-
ment. [[Bank U. S.]] which for a year was
almost constantly in debt to the [Bank of Penna [Pennsylvania]
to the amt [amount] from 50 to $200,000; having a
balance of about 20,000 against the Bank of Penna [Pennsylvania]
drew for the [s?], very ungratefully and
absurdly. Retaliation proposed. Rode three
time to the Bridge with [[Jane Bell]]. Wrote
strong and pointed address to the
majority of the Board of directors of the
Chesapeake & Delaware Canal. My re-
marks on the essay signed "Delaware" appeared
in the U. S. Gazette today. The acct. [account] of the
row in the N. Y. theatre published in our
papers. The American, the Evening Post, &
the Advocate [? J Lean] The com-
mercial [?]. To bed at 11.
