April 8, 1826. Rose at 6.30
Took a dose of salts, three teaspoons full,
which operated powerfully. In the afternoon
went with [[Mrs. C.]] to S. H. [Strawberry Hill] Left her at
at Diamond's. Went to [[Hopkinson's]] party. Every
thing [plain?] Tea & coffee; and wine & cake
over. Read the review of Life of Lee.

April 9. Rose at 7.50. Capt.
Dixey arrived, to the universal joy of the
city. Wrote him a congratulatory letter. At
home all day. Read Hayes [illegible]. Deter-
mined to take more care of myself. It is not
surprizing that my cold has lingered so
long, as I have not been at all careful--
having ventured two frequently out in the
raw air. Bathed my feet in water impreg-
nated with mustard. I left them in for above
half an hour. The water rather too cold.
