Our Holidays Head Quartiers [[Lowestoft]]
from "Land and water" August 15th 1874
[[Oulton Broad]]. --Perhaps some of your numerous readers "on fishing bent" may like to hear that [[Oulton Broad]] is now in fine order for fishing and good takes are the order of the day. Leaving [[London]] on Wednesday the 5th on the 6th by 11:30 we were
at work on the Broad and by six p.m. self and son had a basket of beautiful roach which weighed at [[Mutford Bridge]] turned the
scales at over a stone and a-quarter. On the Saturday we caught over 10ilb. of roach
in a short time two fine perch some dace and a nice bream.
The roach were close upon 1lb. each. --[[R. Suggate]].

August 5th Left [[London]] I and Reginald by the 7. a.m. Train
Eastern Counties Line arrived at [[Lowestoft]] about
twelve o'clock. at 19. Commercial Road called on
Mr and Mrs Downing found they had gone to [[Norwich]].
The journey down from [[London]] very pleasant harvest
operations going on everywhere down the Line.
6th off by early train to [[Oulton Broad]]. got our lines in
for fishing and had excellent sport as printed
above from "The Land and Water" paper.
7th Fishing again very good sport.
8th The same.
9th Sunday Attended divine service at [[St Johns
Church]] at [[Lowestoft]] Sermon very good chiefly
Soliciting contributions for the Hospital in the
evening took tea with Mr and Mrs Downing.
[[Lowestoft]] very full of visitors.
10th off to the beautiful lake again [Oulton Broad]]
one of the many Lakes found in different parts
of the Eastern counties we had very good sport
Some of the fish being large and requiring
a Landing net to raise them into the boat.
11th On the Broad but squally boisterous weather.
In the evening the wind went down and the lake
as calm a a mill once with the fish well on
the feed.
12th On 'The Broad' all day caught plenty of roach and
a few perch but small.
13th Another day of the same.
14th Walked to the new park at [[Lowestoft]] very well
laid out but more trees ought to be planted
