Rome. Will the Germans defend it or will they
spare this only town, if no other?

I am told that the whole Weiss family , Ali,
Erzie, Gabi, Juci, Marika, Jachi, Ali’s brother &
sisters, brothers in law, their children, The Mauthneurs,
Kornfelds, Chorius, fourty and odd persons were
taken by the Germans to Switzerland in sleeping
cars, two or three days ago. In exchange for their
lives (nothing else, but some small luggage
could they have) Hungary’s two biggest industrial
companies, the Weiss Manfred works of Csepel
and the Salgótarján coal mines were “bought” by the
Herman Göring works. This [strikethrough] meanes [/strikethrough] means all armament
factories, aircraft plants, coal mines,
[strikethrough] food conservation works [/strikethrough] canning industries, almost everything important
in the country gone over into German
hands. I am glad though, because of
Ali. People, especially Jews are furious here.
Other Jews can bid nothing like so high.
