The wrighter herein kindly wishes to express himself to the Governor of Utah in regard to the executing I have heard is to take place in that stat sometime next month of Joe Hill. I don't know anything of the party or the affair in personal way but have heard some fellow worker speak of it and that the evednce was weak but I understand that there was a collection taken up at a protest meeting held in City Park in Seattle Aug 9 of $46.15 for to secure a new trial I don't know what was done at other sitys in regard to the treachery of the parisite class and the tools there of treachery extending on all developing people of wisdom of

righteousness which the world has long been wanting for Joe Hill is an IWW member I understand which the base of stands for bringing equality an righteousness in the world an to stop or do away with the great robery an murder an degradation having been suffered so much but it is an old story a hard struggle to bring the ignorant persentage or those stuck in the ded rut of the world but the world is bound to do what the more righeous an proud we [?] for many see there is two laws one for the rich and one for the pore an many other things I could mention the piece of paper an the verse marked round herein gives a good descriptin of affairs so hoping you are not one of the extream closed minded persons and will see that Joe Hill gets a new trial Abe Linkons foreseeing of this nation is shurly coming true

Dear Sir

I write you in behalf of Joe Hill who was sentenced to be shot Sept 4 but has since been granted a stay of execution I ask you in the name of Justice & in honor of your high office to free him & have stricken from the records the crime that has been wrongfully charged against him Idle men are apparent everywhere men who in case of International trouble would be the first to respnd to defend there countrys honor I ask you once more to free one who has done much to rais the standard of the common worker

United Mine Workers of America Rayland, Ohio, R.F.D. No 87 Aug 24th 1915

To His Excellency William Spry Governor of the state of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Your Honor:

In a regular meeting of Local Union No: 1962, Sub District 5 of Ohio, United Mine Workers of America held in Rush Run, Jefferson County Ohio on the 24th day of August 1915, review the evidence in the case of Mr. Joseph Hillstrom it is unanimously decided that the state of Utah has failed to prove him guilty of the murder of J.G. Morrison and his son, Arlin Morrison in Salt Lake County, Utah on January 10th 1914, as charged; or that he has any motive for, or connection with this crime.

We hold that his conviction was secured not by evidence, but by prejudice due to his activity in the labor movement.

We call upon you, as Governor of the state of Utah, demand in the name of justice that the death sentence in the case of Joseph Hillstrom be set
