Kansas City, Mo, Oct 20 1915.

Governor - Spry. Salt Lake City, Utah,

Honorbale sir,

As a citizen of the United States, I want to appeal to you, say that it is your duty to follow out the findings of the Board of Appeal, as well as the findings of the Jury in the Hillstrom case, your duty goes beyond the State, you have no idea I think how far reaching this case is, there is much in our land that is as yet formative, and the Hillstrom case is one of these, and their manner of anarchy must be repelled by strong measures, I herewith enclose a clipping, it in way shows the defiance of law and order, they break the laws, and then do everything to defy the law and its enforcement.

It is my prayer that you see to it that Hillstrom is shot, as every murderer ought to be, and I hope you manfully will stand by the verdict.

You must pardon me for my seeming instrusion in offering advice, it is owing to an intensity brought about by the I,W,W, and their manner of defying the laws, as well as their defiant coercion.

Yours most truly, M.C. Long #12 West Missouri Ave.

CHARLES D. HANCHETTE SWASY L. LAWTON. HANCHETTE & LAWTON, ATTORNEYS AND COUNSELORS AT LAW HANCOCK, HOUGHTON CO, MICHIGAN.

November 20, 1915.

Governor William Spry, Salt Lake City, Utah

It is a great pleasure to read in the newspaper that we have a Governor in Utah fearless and just to enforce law and order. Permit me to send congratulations for your principles of Americanism. A Governor who adhers to the principles of law fearlessly will endure in the hearts of the people forever; one who winks at law violation is bound to perish and ultimatley be condemned in public opinion. It is a fixed principle in this land of liberty that everyone must be responsible for his acts and pay the penalty thereof. Such will always be the law in the interest of peace and quietude and to promote the general welfare. It is a duty of every governor and every officer to enforce observance of the law made for the general weal.

It is a great pleasure to see a high minded American like yourself stand up in this big nation and say - The principles of the American flag must be respected by all those who live under it.

Very truly yours, Swasy L. Lawton SLL.IL

Mr. Swaby L. Lawton, Hancock, Michigan.

My dear Sir:- Please accept this tardy acknowledgement of your cordial letter of November 20th, approving of my action in the notorious Hillstrom case. A press of official duties has made it impossible before now to handle the accumulation of mail.

After withstanding a bombardment of upwards of thirty thousand letters, most of which were threatening in character and many of which were vile and vicious, it is a source of real pleasure to receive communications such as you write, filled with loyal and patriotic sentiments. The time is ripe in this country when those who believe in our institution of goverment must take a first stand against the element which seems to overthrow the mandates of the court through threats and intimidations. I have taken the liberty of showing your letter to the membbrs of the Board of Pardons who join me in this letter of thanks.

Cordially yours,

Governor.

Governor Wm. Spry Salt Lake City

Dear Governor:- Just read the account of Hillstroms execution in the Des. News, and if I did not say to you that I fully appreciate the fearless stand which you have taken to uphold the law, and also the dignity of our state (notwithstanding the enterference of our worthy Pres. of the U. States, the pinheaded minister of Sweden, and so many others) I would not feel that I was doing my whole duty as a citizen.

I trust that yourself and family will not be desterbed. or molested by those who make threats they may come from from those in high standing as law makers, or some insignificant country edition, but they can do your no harm. simply a little annoyance. Wish best wishes for your safty and success I remain

P.S. I do not write this for publication simply my private view.
