January 7, 1916.

Mr. Clyde C. Dawson,

Denver, Colorado.

My dear Mr. Dawson:--

I have been so busily engaged with other matters during the past six weeks that it has been impossible to attend to my correspondence. I trust, therefore, you will accept this tardy acknowledgment of your cordial letter of November 20th, approving of my action in the Hillstrom cane. It is indeed a source of pleasure to hear from men like yourself who are known to uphold the institutions of government and to feel that in our efforts to maintain law and order, we have the support of the law-abiding element of our country.

Again thanking you and with kind personal regards, I am

Cordially yours,

Governor.

Dec. 16, 1915.

Mr. B. F. Dufin, 860 So. 8th West, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dear Sir:

I thank you for your expression of approval of my action in the Hillstrom case as contained in your communication of Nov. 22nd. We need more men likeyou who will stand behind public officials in the discharge of their duty.

The state is being rapidly cleared of the hobo element and I purpose that there shall be no congregating of criminals, either in Salt Lake City or in any other city of the state, to intimidate the people and destroy property, because we insist upon the enforcement of the laws.

Very truly yours,

Governor.
