Petition for Intervention

Considering that Joe Hill, a citizen of the United States of
North America was found guilty and condemned to be shot, which
execution has to take place October 1,

considering futher, that we, the assembled in the above meeting
do not doubt in the least that the above mentioned Joe Hill
is absolutely innocent and did not commit the crime, he was
charged with and that such sentence of capital punishment is
nothing less than an act of vengeance on the side of the ruling
class towards Joe Hill, the champion of the oppressed working
class, reminding of the Haymarket Affair of the year 1886 in
Chicago,

Considering futher, that the decision about life or death of
the condemned rests with you as the supreme officer of the
State of Utah,

Therefore, we citizens of the United States do appeal to your
sense of justice, to grant a pardon to Joe Hill or let him
have a new trial, in which he shall be defended by an attorney
so that the legal proceedings shall correspond with the spirit
of our Constitution of 1776 and not be travestied by class
prejudice.
