To His Honor
Gov. Spry
Salt Lake City Utah

Philadelphia Penn.
2524 Kensington Ave
September 2nd. 1915.

We, Citizens of Philadelphia, in Mass Meeting assembled, ask
you to commute the sentence of Joseph Hillstrom, who is to be ex-
ecuted on October 1st. 1915, as we believe from what we have read
of the evidence in the case, that there is a reasonable doubt of
his guilt.

In the evidence there is no direct connection, nor any motive
advanced for Hillstrom to murder J.S. Morrison and his son, Arling.

We believe the trial was conducted by prejudiced persons and
and the verdict rendered because he was an active member of an un-
popular labor organization.

We are unalterably opposed to capital punishment as a means to
elminate crime.

A copy of these resolutions were sent to the daily press.
