“M. Genl. Lumley cannot suffer the affair of yesterday to pass over without “returning his sincere & heartfelt thanks to every individual for the very zealous “affection & support which was so conspicuous in all parts & in every direction “throughout the day  severe & much to be regretted as the loss in that affair has been, “he has one great consolation in being able proudly to attest, that the British name has “in this instance been upheld as untarnished & indeed as greatly preeminent as in any former period  “the B. Genl. will assume the command accordingly  the Majr. Genl. cannot quit his “present command, without again expressing his sincere & heartfelt thanks for the “zealous support & assistance which he has received from the B. Genl. & from all  nor “can he pass over the more than common gallantry
