23rd “which has been displayed, & the patience and perseverance that has been “conspicuous during the excessive fatigue of this short but trying service  the events of all have been laid before His Excellency the Commander of the Forces, & “he trusts in due time will be made known to his Sovereign & to his Country  it is a “satisfaction to the M. Genl. in parting with such true & gallant Soldiers to know that “they are in good health & well supplied with provisions  ”
Maj.r Gen.l Lumley is looked upon as a man of considerable abilities & courage  he has the perfect manner of a Gentleman, & is exceedingly beloved by the troops  the duties we were employed in during the siege were certainly very severe & discouraging  we were always either on, fatigued parties working at the batteries, or in covering parties, in order to protect the working parties in
