18th disappointed to hear that we were obliged a second time to raise the siege of Badajos & retire across the Guadiana  every body here was quite desponding at first, saying, that we were going to the lines &c but it is now quite changed  we expect every day to move on again 
20th We had a skirmish in which we took a number of prisoners; but unfortunately lost 1 Capt. 1 Subt. & 45 of the 11th Lt. Dragoons  Capt. Lutyens commanded; who after behaving very gallantly, making some prisoners & cutting thro’ & thro’ the enemy, was taken prisoner with his whole party  we know very little about what is going on but what we learn from report  which is, the Enemy have retired after throwing in a reinforcement of 5000 men & provisions into Badajos, & that they
