1811 Sep.br
28th of the 28th we marched from our position & arrived about a mile from the camp near Sabugal 
29th Marched to the camp  the Enemy appear to have had a sufficient lesson  they have not followed us any further  the main body has retired  from the time of our taking up our position, our baggage has been in the rear, & we have been in want of every thing  I expect that we shall shortly go into cantonments on the Coa  I am excessively fatigued, but hope soon to get over it 
Lord Wellington had a narrow escape the other day  our Reg.t was formed in close column & at the time was under a severe cannonade & nothing but a few trees & some broken rocks could have hindered our suffering very materially  L.d Wellington, & Gen.l Cole, were on a height at a short distance on our left, & as is too often the case the former was too much exposed when a shell burst between the two Generals  how they could have escaped appeared to me (who plainly saw the circumstance) very extraordinary
