ALEXANDER CLAIM. connection with the death of W.A. Alexander from injuries recieved on west Main
Street by being run down by the City's Fire apparatus, the Public Safety
Committee to whom the matter had been referred reported in favor of the said
claim being paid by the City when the City Manager shall have verified the I
respective items of the claim.
Pursuant with the foregoing report the following resolution was unanimously
adopted and will be found on the Ordinance Book:
PERMIT TO STANDARD OIL CO. TO ERECT TANK. A Resolution providing for settling claim of the Misses Alexander V the City
Upon application of the Standard Oil Co., and the approval of the City
Manager the following resolution was unanimously adopted:
A Resolution granting a permit to the Standard Oil Co. (N. J.) to erect a
steel tank in the corporate limits. See Ordinance Book.
IN RE. HOGS IN CORPORATE LIMITS. REFERRED. The Ordinance Committee by its Chairman presented a motion designed to
permit and regulate the keeping of hogs within the corporate limits.
After discussion of the matter by both members of the body and citizens at
interest the matter was referred back to the Ordinance and Public Safety
Committees with recommendation that conference upon the matter be had with the
Board of Health and report back at a special or regular meeting.
APPROPRIATION FOR WATER SURVEY. The following resolution adopted by the Board of Aldermen at the December
meeting was placed upon its passage and unanimously concurred in:
A Resolution appropriating $1,500 for survey of the City Water plant.

On motion the meeting then adjourned.

COUNCIL CHAMBER, February 12, 1920
The regular monthly meeting of the Council was held on this date with the
folllowing members present; Elliott, Forrest, Huyett, Long, Twyman and Via,
minutes of the January meeting were not read.
APPLICATION OF J.H. NORTH FOR PERMIT. REFERRED. Mr. J.H. North appeared before the Council and asked permission to erect a
store and dwelling corner of 10th and Wertland Streets. The matter was referred
to the Buildings & Grounds commitee and city attorney with power to act.
APPOINTMENT OF POLICEMEN His Honor the Mayor advised Council of the appointment of E. T. Garth,
A. G. Cox as policemen for the City to vacancies on the force, and the
appointment of E. E. Stratton a Special Policeman. Said appointments were
confirmed. He also reported the removal of C.D. Melton from the force.
PETITIONS FOR ARC LIGHTS. Petitions for arc lights at corner of Billing Avenue and 6th Street, Belmont,
and at the car-stop on the Fry's Springs car line in front of Bobby Mainfort's
residence were referred to Light Commitee and City Manager.
POLICE REPORT Report of the Chief of Police for January showed cash fines $226.50: cases
in default, #130.
CITY MANAGER Report of the City Manger for January was submitted, read, discussed and
ordered filed.
In RE. SALARY OF LAND ASSESSORS. On motion of Mr. Long the following was adopted:
RESOLVED, by the Common Council the Board of Aldermen concurring
That the City's portion of the salary of John N. Page as land assessor of the
City of Charlottesville and of J. P. Grove as Assistant land Assessor be paid
to them monthly instead of waiting until the work is completed, so that they
