Referring to my letter of the
26th - will now say that I recd this morning
a letter from Barling & Davis, stating that
Wm M Evarts & C Beaman Jr were expected in
New York per steamer to arrive on the 31st
inst - and after consultation with them
B & D thought it would be advisable to seek
an early interview with Prest Grant - and
that it would be important that W W Crapo
should come to N York, confer with the
gentlemen named above, and perhaps
visit Washington with them - A H Davis
also came on this moorning and we had
an interview with G C C who approves
of the preceding suggestions, and we
