to take the remaining eight hhds on his own proper account & Risque. I am at a loss to know whether the price of this tob. will be agreeable to you or not. I think indeed it is very dear & yet there was no getting any Cheaper the long and excessive drouth in this Colony and Maryland having changed a fine propect of a Plentifull crop to an impossibility of making one that is middling. Could I have turn'd all the Cash into Bills of Exchange, I would not have purchased one pound of Tobacco, but that was impossible, and therefore considering the loss arising on Cash Remittances and on the contrary, the saving of the Freight, Comission, & other Charges, as the Tobacco is your own I would not omit the Opportunity that offered of bidding for these few hhd that were put up for to sale at sever. Warehouses on this River, as is annually done by our tob. Law. But after all, as I think that instruitions of your Letter to me by the Stannage will hardly beare me out in this Transaction. I am very willing that the differance between the Tobacco and the Cash whatever it may be, shall be charged to my Proper Acco. [Account] You will perhaps think it worth while to make Insureance on this Tobacco But it more difficult to make an Estimate at present of what Cash will be remitted by the ship which cannot be certainly known before the Accounts are closed. I will suppose that the sum may six hundred pounds Current money of Virg. and the Lumber may amount to another hundred no (on) which you may make an Insurance as you Judge Proper. And if the Cash should be afterwards lessened by turning any of it into Bills of Exchange, you will not be a sufferer. If the Negroes should liv on hand so as to delay the ship, after she has got in her Tob. & Lumber (which will consist of white one plank and staves) I will (crossed out) think I must take some of them to my house here, & send the rest to Corotomon to be said for next years pay.
