About

Matriculation Books (University of Virginia) V.1 (1825-1855)

Matriculation Books of the University of Virginia (RG-14/4/2.041, Small Special Collections Library), document each new and returning student to the University of Virginia officially registered: name, birth date, parent or guardian, place of residence, and courses of study.

Records for 1825/1826 were entered by the Proctor, Arthur S. Brockenbrough. Thereafter the students entered the information themselves. Beginning with the 14th session in 1837, students listed their local address (boarding house). Beginning with the 33rd session in 1856, students pledged to obey the laws of the University.

This is the first of the first volumes, recording students attending sessions 1-32, 1825-1855.
