[[J. L. Russell]]
[[Salem, Massachusetts|Salem, Mass]] Sept. 23d 1871

Dr Lapham

Dear Sir,

I have the pleasure of
acknowledging the receipt of your kind letter of
Aug. 25th accompanied by a List of names
of Lichens (determined by [[Edward Tuckerman|Prof Tuckerman]]) of which you sent me duplicates.
It arrived in the midst of my study of them
and gratified me to find that I had recognized
Several described by him. Among them were
some from Wisconsin &c., on which I
now report, not finding them in his list.
The Superb specimen of Evernia on "tops
of nut pine" is E. Valpinia, not "alphinia"
as you had written it. I have seen it
often, but none so remarkable before.

No 48 [Placodium Elifaus?], with [Licidia atroalba?]
Marquette. Lake Superior.

No 49 [Endocurfrin zuferceris?] with [Endoc. frisillum?]
Wisconsin.

No 50. Crust of Calicium [chrysopephalum?] [illegible]
Blue Mounds

No 51 [Acanospora (Leciden) Schleicheri?].
[[Blue Mounds Wisconsin]]

No 52 [Endocarf-?], but insufficient for accuracy.

No 53 [Parmelia Caperata?]. Blue Mounds Wisc.
