Syn. C. planlaginea sch K. (not of Lam) C.
heterosperma Wahl.

Sterile spike single, linear, pedunculate;
fertile spikes 2 to 4, erect, alternate, loose=flowered,
with a zigzag rachis, the upper near the base
of the sterile nearly sessile, the others pedunculate;
bracts leaflike, sheathing, the uppermost exceeding the
culm; perigynia oval, obtusely triangular, striate,
narrowed at each end, about the length of the
scale. Culm about a foot high
acutely triangular; flowers in May. Grows
in dry woods.—

milwaukee Wisconsin.)

Wiscsonsin, Illinios, Southern Indiana, Ohio
and Michigan. Extends from Florida and Texas to
