Milwaukee Harbor January 18, 1844

Sand has accumulated on the north side of the pier about 375 feet since it was put in - say July last, as represented in this figure.

Apl 18 1848 - A severe storm from the NE the sand next the pier carried away so that it now extends out only 100 feet! A breach has been found around the shore end of the pier 30 feet wide through wich the waves flowed.

About 10 feet of the bank at East End of Wisconsin Street Milwaukee gone in four years - 1839 - 1843 inclusive.
January 5th 1844 - distance from light house at that place to the margin of the bank at top 109 feet.
