As the mean temperature of the year varies as much as 10 deg. we must discard the idea that the warm summers are balanced by cold winter &c.

A newspaper clipping said on the 12th "the weather has been intensely hot-and sultry for a day or two-and the effects of it have been quite perceptible on man and beast-it has seemed rather hard for either to breathe-
