My Dear Sir
[Page mostly illegible due to damage.]
Receiving your note about the "Antiquities of Wisconsin" reminded me that I have a new locality of Mastodon remains that may be of use in your new edition as showing, if nothing [illegible] the geographical distribution of the [illegible] was the anterior portion of the lower [illegible] at the [illegible] Chicago state fair [illegible] exhibitor?....Illinois, a [few?]...Galena.
There has already [illegible] found near Waukesha, Wisconsin, a toothy [illegible] to the fossil elephant. It is now in the collection of Carrol College at that place. It is much decayed-but yet [illegible word-perceives?] character sufficient to enable me to identify it.
With many thanks for your kindness
I remain yours truly,
I.A. Lapham.
