Friend Lapham,

Perhaps it may afford you
some satisfaction to hear of my whereabouts,
& how I get along in collection Curiosities.
I went on foot to Madison when I arrived
on Friday, 6 days from Milwaukee. At [illegible]
[Prairie?] ville I found some fine specimen of
orthocerectile like that you had in your
window, & put up a small box partly full
of them. A great many could be found
there by any one who would watch for them
I left the box directing it to be sent to
you. There is room in it for mor speci-
mins, as you will see by taking off
the cover. You can therefore fill it up
with any specimens you may have
to send to me. When I had [got?] and two or
three [miles?] as Mr. [Brudn?] I found a [boulder?]
in the road which I liked so well that I
determined to have it; & I engaged him to
take it in to you & request you to keep it
till you heard from me. At Fort At-
kinson I put up a little box of skulls
& some other things, & left it to be sent to
