isville, as well as for my own satis-
faction. When you shall have received

put them in the care of some friend who
is going to Detroit, who will see that they

Sept. before I go on my southern trip.
I collected a great many shells, partic-
ularly univalves. At the [lakes?] is a great
[plan?]. I am now in the midst of the
mineral region & of course I think
very little of shells, but my head, &
heart too perhaps is full of rocks &
storms. I do not find it as yet so rich
in cabinet minerals, as I expected, but some
things especially iron pyritis is the finest
I ever saw. I wish you would write to me
so that I shall receive before the first of
Oct. & give me some idea of what you would
most like in exchange. I intend to start
on my southern trip by the first of Oct.
direct to Cincinnati as I shall state
from there.

I hope you will excuse the inelegance
of my letter, as my head is too full
of specimens to compose well.
