surpassingly interesting, the amazingly competent
ladies and gentlemen of the class of '09 were
to be our hosts and hostesses.

We can remember in the dim, dark past,
how, when such functions occurred, we[underlined] ruled
and reigned supreme for the previous day or
two. So we were not surprised to hear
professors and seniors ordered around in tones
not to be disregarded, we were not
astonished to hear animated discussions about
lectures or no lectures. In silent admiration
of the Freshies' nerve, we looked on
and chuckled with satisfaction as our good-natured
Provost pinned his ultimatum to
the board - "No lectures to-day". Then came
the work - the work we[underlined] used to do
while all the others chatted and cooed and
talked. Until presto! the halls of learning
became the festive halls of pleasure - the
