Penetanguishene 27th April 1844

Dear Brother

I have the pleasure to acknowledge
the recept of your letter dated Kingston 18th April you wish
me to send you a statement of your Chieftain ship -
I sit down at this moment to give you a very correct
account = (Namance , Sturgeon) which gave your Father (Kaskiningi, Cut finger) his
Chiftain[Chieftain] ship and gave him a river called (nago cibi, Sandy river) your
father took possission[possession] of that river - another Cheif[Chief] (Annimikener, Thunder)
come forward and told your Father I cant attend to both side
of River St. Clair I give you this side) British English side) here I put
this wampum belt in your nick[neck] this land will be yours and your
Children from one Generation to another - now no person can
dispute your rights of that part of the Contry[Country], this Chieftain ship of yours
at present comes from your Great Grandfather I dont se[see] that a few
strgglers[stragglers] that as[have] sold their lands to the Americans is coming forward
to Claim your property - if they don't believe this let them go at [???]
of our nation and enquire of the otawie Great Chiefs them is the
persons to Settled every thing concerning our Chieftain ship, and then
they will find out the truth -
