BY WAY OF EXPLANATION

The enclosed sheets are reprints of display advertising
that appeared in twenty daily papers of
Greater New York during the first ten days of November.
This advertising campaign was in preparation
for Armenian and Syrian Relief days which Mayor
Mitchel had proclaimed for New York City, November
10th and 11th.

In preparing the advertising the Committee had
the assistance of the New York Advertising Club, whose
members gave their services most enthusiastically and
without charge to this cause.

The daily papers likewise gave their lowest
charity rates, the necessary cash expenditure being
provided privately by a member of the New York Local
Committee who rightly regarded this as a most strategic
form of investment in the interest of relief. It
will be noted that the advertising was also used to
announce the great mass meeting in the interest of
Armenian and Syrian Relief in the Hippodrome Sunday
afternoon, November 1lth, where the offering amounted
to $60,000.00. or more.

It is earnestly hoped that local committees,
advertising clubs, newspapers and contributors will
co-operate in placing similar advertising in other
cities and thus acquaint the public with the unprecedented
need and with our responsibility for meeting
the need before the winter's hardships have put these
people beyond our power to help. A representative of
the American Committee or of the New York Advertising
Club will be sent for conference to any of the larger
cities that are interested in conducting an advertising
campaign.

Sincerely yours,
