slightly overcast.

Left camp 9 23 arrived 10 15 Burdy il-Kas a small town on a
hill surrounded bu a grove of trees & to its N. E a smalll village
of stone houses abot 12, some ancient bldgs rebuilt and in-
habited by Kurds - N. bought 2 rugs these are for 3 20 the others
for 2 00. L & B had proceeded P & N. from camp & spent about
1/2 hour in town & tours, Left 10 15 (no stop) arrived Kalat Kalota, a
prominent ruin seen from numerous places in these metro &
situated on top of a hill. It consists of the ruins of an ancient
temple rebuilt int a Christian church this is unique in
N. central Syrua. The Christian church was later turned into an
Arabic castle. We descended hill to N. E. E. to in 5 mins to 7 mins
a medium sized ruined town well preserved, 2 churches, one
with [illegible] standing [illegible] & all, a few trees growing in ruins
a picturseque place. Left 3 13 arrived Zuk il-Kebir, 4 00 a small
inhabited place - Kurds - on large ancient site. one uninteresting bldg.
well preserved & some few fragments, [illegible] & door jambs. no stop
arrived 4 14 Kharab shems, a picturesque ruin with some trees
situated in a south hull side gently sloping. a medium size
town uninhabited & a most interesting church with all the arches
& columns of the side aisles standing, also a small chapel on
top of the hill. Left 5 30 arrived camp 6 35
