6th March 1849 moon nearly full & We have not seen it more than once or Twice, the Sun has not been seen much for many days

7 Still cloudy & like for Rain & in fact has rained most of the morning. weather moderate, striping Tobacco this morning

8th last evening it cleared off last night the moon shone beautifull & this morning clear & moderate weather, we rolled the balance of our Logs yesterday from 11 oclock except 2 or 3 Heaps which we are making this morning mending those rolled before & then sitting all a fire Halling rails around corn field fence etc One Plow running

9. Raining this morning Burning Logs Heaps striping Tobacco & for a few Hours run 4 plows & then Rained to stop us

10th Burning up the balance of our Log Heaps Halling leaves & 2 Plows running to day cloudy & moderate weather - cleared off 9 Lambs to this day alive lost 9 or 11

11th moderate weather clear day FinishedManuring Our Plant Beds yesterday sawed off Rams Horn yesterday, -

12 Foggy thismorningrained last evening moderate weather 3 Plows running Halling rails etc 13. weather moderate Plowing for corn

13th Planting Irish Potatoes this day Halling up leaves out little new ground cloudy weather & like for Rain — Raining & stop us from Plowing about 11 oclock & Halling leaves Thundered & lightened to day Striping tobacco yesterday [Pinky?] had a cow calf this day or night

1849 March 14th cloudy & Rainy this day striping Tobacco & trying to finish, - warm wet weather, Finished striping Tobacco this evening

15th Rained nearly all night cloudy damp weather & moderate. More cloudy weather this past winter & march up to day than I ever saw. Decemr. was cloudy damp moderate weather. Janry was cold & some snow. Feby windy cold weather March has been wet all the time, no Oats sewed yet in this neighborhood Fencing corn field fence to day & halling wood with waggon,- Finished fence -

16 Still cloudy & damp Plowing & began to colter in new ground this day -

17 Coltering in little new ground & one waynearly done Plowing for corn alse shrubing for corn Henry fixing garden etc helping me weather foggy in morning & then cleared off pretty day again which makes 2 this month

18 Pretty day & went to Bro. Stones toPittsyacourt to get Mrs Cullocks & Mrs Colemans Papers

19 went to court. clear pretty day —

20 Fanning out Oats & began to sew oats this morning, carried 4 Bushels to stony pint to day Fed & alse at new ground - - & Jordan clouded up & began to Rain about 11 Oclock Lila Plowing for corn at home X Pink had a cow calf Sunday 18th last

21 Rained very yesterday evening & last night cleared off & Cool to day prizing Lugs & cleaning up new ground

21st clear & Cool packed down in prize Barn good Tobacco from new ground barn took down yesterday =Mourning a black cow had a calf Heifer last night =

22 Prizing Lugs & nearly done -

23 Sent to Mrs Hunts to Roll Logs Plowing for corn & Hilling in little new ground

24. Settled Mrs Colemans account Current Plowing for corn sewing Oats Hilling & halling Rails out of new ground Jane & Jordan cleaning up in new ground - fair good day for 2 days

24 cloudy & like for Rain this morning Sewed only 7 Bus. Oats to this day, -

25 Raining nearly all day I went to Mrs Colemans to see Kitt -

26 this morning clear & cool – Halling Rails & wood & cleaning up new ground this day Raking etc

27 Sewing Oats at stony point Raking Plowing for Corn at home shrubbing for Oats ———

28 Raking burning leaves Grubing Oat Land Sewing Oats & Plowing for Corn Rained a little cloudy & cool Went to Mrs Coleman last night about 12 Oclock in night, also in morning to see Kit who is very Sick Had the appraisement at Mrs McCullock

29 Sewing Oats coltering new ground cleaning up flax Patch Hilling & Plowing for corn [smudge] shoats

30 spayed 13 & Cut 9 & 5 too small to alter coltering & sewing Oats fine weather.

1849 march 31st. I went to Mrs Lovelaces Coltering Raking Sewed flax Patch & Sewing Oats, fine day

Aprl 1 A little cloudy but fine weather Bit Had a Bull Calf 29th or 30 march

2nd Red Cow Called Rose had a cow calf this day or night, - fine weather Halling Barn Lugs out of new ground coltering & Raking. Plowing for Oats & sew flat above House ——

3. Henry gone to mill with Large Log for Paling & Hhds stairs & off sidePlank to Doct Millers mill, carried 7½ Bus. Corn for meal 3 Bus for chop also 1 Bus for A Neale & a peck for abram Bushing in Oats back of Garden, Raking nearly done, Fed croping littlegroundnew Planted ButterBeans Snaps & Simblings Still fine weather, & clear

4 Laying off drill corn to Bed Finished sewing Oats about upwards of 30 Bushels - Lila Plowing for Corn

5 Taking middle House good Tobacco, - to prize, down Finished prizing Lugs & put under a Hhd good Tobacco out of middle Barn Halling out manure on Sweet Potatoe Patch

6 Hilling & Coltering nearly done Hilling little new ground & coltering one way big new ground Plowing for Corn & fixing Sweet Potatoe Patch by prize Barn

1849 April 6 Weather fine & clear, onions salsafy Beets come up very pretty on Hill Oats coming up well - .

7 Coltering in Big new ground Plowing on Branch for Corn -

8 Fair morning & Beautifull weather ground a little hard clouded up in evening

9. cloudy & like for Rain this morning Planted 1 Bus. Sweet Potatoes seed got from Sister Colemans & 1 peck of Our Own except the peck, all of Ours Rotted, last the 7thSaturday

10 cloudy & like for rain weather good Planted Sweet Potatoes this morning got 1½ Bushels from Mrs McCullocks Plowing on Branch for corn coltering & Hilling in new ground Nearly done Plowing for Corn

11th Finished Do & Coltering new ground way one - 2 Hands Hilling weather cool & windy Cut little Bull yearling to day - Laying off to Plant Corn, one way My wife & all walk to Mrs Hunts to day we have 12 Lambs & have lost about 10

12. clear & cool laying off & Began to Plant corn this morning = Planting some water melon seed inSweet Potatoe Patch

13. Planting corn left hand of Path by Barn middle Laying off for Planting Corn clear & Cool

14 Laying off & Plantingcornleft hand of Path - clear & cool this morning Put stack fodder & stack Oats in house about this time Planted Corn field snaps by middle barn Finished Planting corn the other sid[e] branch next to middle barn laying off to Plant this side branch Harrowing Beds for drill Corn
