1849 July 13th weather fair & warm Finished laying by corn 11th except a little on the Spring sprang branch

14 yesterday we cut oats Had Mr Pannills Ennis, did not get done this morning Halling up wheat Fems hid - Halling up our wheat & Halling up sweet Potatoes by Carriage Weather warm & clear fine time indeed for crops, Finished Hilling sweet Potatoes

15 Very cool windy weather went to see Mr. Angel to day carried him the contribution sent by the church $4.12½ ½ Bbl & 3 Bushels wheat

16 Weeding Tobacco Finishing in Lot. Henry & Lila Plowing fresh ground Tobacco. Jacob started to school again

17. Hilling up Big new ground Tobacco Finished little one this morning. Plowing second yrs land Tobacco & will get done that this morning. working pickling cucumbers going to Plow small corn on Branch & Finished laying by Plowing Lots of Tobacco - It has been cool nights & mornings ever since last Saturday 14th. ,-

18. Finished Plowing lots to day Hilling up new ground, - & choping young corn on branch

19 carried waggon to shop got 2 Horses shod Hilling upseveral out S. S. M. Housenew ground - cloudy & like for Rain

20. Hilling new ground Halling up Sills for Henrys House, & logs for Tobacco House Plowed out & worked garden The 13th Inst somebody came & stole a Bee Gum from us carried up hear by old field took the Honey out [k]nocking the Gum all to ps first

21st Hilling up Fresh ground Tobacco & Halling up Logs for Barn - cloudy for Rain& like

22nd clear & cool dry weather

23 Halling out manure on Turnip Patch Finished Hilling new ground & second yrs Land & Hilling up Lots = Planted snaps on Hill last Saturday - Weather clear & dry My wife & children gone to Mrs Hunts to see the Charlotte Poeple etc.

24 Hilling up Branch Tobacco & also newlot Stacking Oats this morning - clear & fair Catharine S. starts to Mrs Walkups school at $1½ pr month say for every 20th days goesshe

25. Raining this morning began Just before day then Rfull for it. very much needed. Spining & shelling Corn Mr Myers here nearly finished working with hay yesterday both lots Stacked Our Oats yesterday light Crop

21 Rained another shower last evening Toped over our Tobacco yesterday & wormed it over Thinning corn last evening & this morning, sent for waggon at shop Plowing Turnip Patch & Part of Pea Patch on Branch - cloudy likeRain for

27 Halling Logs for Barn & shrubing for corn began to clean up on Johns branch This morning alse ann, Lila cutting down beans, yesterday we Harrowed our cotton & finished putting little dirt to our Lot Tobacco Halling Logs & shrubing in fresh ground Fed & Jane cloudy & like for rain

28. Raining a little this morning, worming Lots this morning - Raining finely to day — cleaning up on Johns branch. Lila alse & ann - Jordan & Lowry choping in corn

29th went to Mr McCullocks funeral to day pd Lewis $5 Recd Robl for 1 pr old [?eg] wheels

30. Cutting Logs & Halling for Barn, & cleaning up on Johns Branch, - fine weather,

1949 July 31st Cutting & Halling Logs began at 12 oclock to worm & top Tobacco, Rained a little in evening. Heavy Rain at Mrs Colemans where I was

August 1st Toping Tobacco Plowing & working Lots of Tobacco staining[?] Logs for Barn Sewed Turnip Patch this day, also Sewed Turnip seed in⌃new Tobacco Lot

2nd Henry Fed & Jane geting sills for Barn Butting. Halling up etc for Barn the Balance Plowing & Hilling up Branch tobacco & also Lot. Sewed Turnip seed on Branch this day clear & fair nights a little cool

3 Fast day & we all went to S. S. M H Hilling up Tobacco in evening & squaring Logs

4 Squaring Logs Finished Hilling up Tobacco choping in cotton began to Rain in evening a fine Rain & continued till in the night & most all night - warm fine weather

5. Raining again this morning & Foggy

6 cloudy this morning Rained last night in the night fine warm days my waggon started to Lynchg this morning for Mr. Lewis, clear & warm. Finished cutting for barnLogs Toping & worming Tobacco chopping out Garden

7 Clearing fine morning Toping Tobacco & Grubing on Johns Branch Finished toping Tobacco yesterday Halling Balance Logs for Barn Henry did not get back last night,

9 Halling Logs - & Rocks for Pavement in yard & Grubing on Johns Branch cloudy & like Rainfor

10 Grubing with 4 hands on Johns branch Henry returning yesterday evening gone 4 days.

10th. Augt 1849 Raised Tobacco House near Granary this day, notched up by 2 Bookers & 2 Kits Mrs Colemans & Mrs McCullocks Kits Colo Smiths & Capt Fitzgeralds Booker very well done Bro Simpson & Boker both here — clear good day for our work —

11. we are grubing & cutting on Branch Halling gravel for walk & Hewing down Tobacco House & squaring Logs for Henrys house Clear & fine weather — Jane Gravelling walk before Door

13th Augt. Henry Heaving down Tobacco House Lila cutting on Johns Branch, & when done she is to Chop out cotton, & get out flax seed. Fed alse Jane & Ann began to Grub new ground on mountain adjoin =ing mountain field this morning for a start — clear & fair

14 worming & succoring & toping Tobacco Henry Hewing down Barn —

15. Treading out Mr. Neals wheat got out about 16 or 17 any rate I got 2½. trod cleaned & brot the fan home by Dark — Fed Toping Tobacco the Balance worming & succoring, clear & dry Day —

16. Fed gone to mill with nearly a Bus. corn 2½ wheat. Henry finishing toping for this weekover Toba Jane alse & ann gone to Grubing in & Fed when he gets backnew ground Lila & Jordan getting out flax seed & gath[er]ing Herd Grass seed etc.

17 Henry Hewing down Barn for sever= =al days. 4 Grubing in new ground gathering Lila Herds Grass seed Dry weather at this time

18 Same Grubing Henry gone to Capt Gilberts mill with 9½ Bushels corn borrowed of Mrs Hunt to be returned next spring. Lila & Jordan cutting & shrubing for corn 2 or 3 pretty showers to day went to Mrs Colemans & Rented out her Hillfield plantation etc.

1849 august 19 quite cool this morning. my wife gone to Mrs McCullocks & Catharine S to go to school with Mildred Ann E. McC they Board her for nothing Milly stays here some & so change about, cloudy

20th Milly Ann E. McCullock starts to school to Mrs Walkup same Terms as Catharine S. Raised Henrys House & Forage House near stable Succoring & worming Tobacco this day —

21st Henry & Fed gone to Mrs Lewis to Raise Barn Succoring & worming Tobacco etc etc as Hot a day & night as I ever felt in my life I think some little appearance of Rain in but did notevening

22nd clear morning a little foggy in South Topping Tobacco worming & succoring This day Fanny W. went to charlotte with miss Ruths & Jno D Hunt, started last Thursday -- still Hot Mr Martin a clock Doctor stayed here last night fixed clock in sitting room gave him a $1- for it

23 Worming Tobacco & Grubing in new ground Henry Hewing down Barn & this House A fine Rain in evening, Lila after morningspining

24. Same work to day. nearly done grubing

25 Fanny W. returned from charlotte worming Tobacco this morning Shrubing corn field. Henry halling Rails for hog pen

26 went to association Buffaloe clear hot day

27 Henry sick, shrubing corn field

28 worming & succoring Tobacco, & toping Henry still in House clear & dry - Jerry had Crofe Croup last night verybad,

29. scraping off wheat yard this morning worming & succoring Tobacco. clear & dry Toping tobacco. - went to Mrs Colemans to Hillfield to see Mr East.
