and of the whole country.
We too must take a part in them.

You cannot do
without any more than we can do without you, nor do we desire to get
out from among you and this
agitation that is heaving and roll-
ing around us like the surges of
the ocean. We must assist in
working out the destiny of this na-
tion and the race.

Shame upon the blindness of
those Americans who so tardily
withhold plain and simple justice
from colored citizens.
