Dear Girl I'm still, here in
Limoges. I was all packed up
and going out the gate when they
called me back, having made
a mistake in orders. It is now
only six days to Christmas so
expect I'll spend it here.

Since this war is over and
my bit is done, I am impatiently
waiting for the opportunity to
return to you, because; (as the poets say)

I love you, dear.
I did not know until I came
So far away. Perhaps the flame
of war has taught me that
I love you, dear.
