My dear old Sned:

At home last evening I found a splendid
letter from you acknowleging [acknowledging] receipt of the $300.00 I wired
you and I note you had not yet cashed the Western Union
cheque. You do not have to return me any of it unless
you want to, and then only when it suits your convenience.
I want you to feel easy financially all of the time you
are in the service and it wont do for you to be cramped.

Regarding the car, I dont see how any valve could be
leaking, as I had McCabe in San Diego grind all the
valves for which I paid $6.20. I am sure there is some
lost motion, and a good deal of it along the power
transmission line, but if you cant have it fixed by your
Motor Dept, I will have it attended to when the car
comes back here. The car jerks a good deal more, when
you leave the primer pulled out. It should always be
pushed in as far as it will go. There is nothing new
about Jos. The District Board have done nothing yet, about
his exemption on vocational grounds, and he has not
been examined physically yet, and will do nothing
further until he hears from the District Board. I got a
letter from him this a.m. in which he said that his
jaw commenced to swell. He went to a dentist who
said he had an abscess at the root of one of his front
teeth. He drilled into it and found the nerve dead. He
is now having it treated. I see there is a possibility
of your remaining behind, if the division moves, to teach
the new crowd. I hope you do, but if not, and you
go you will get some wonderful experiences.

savagery. They are an outward evidence that you
have done your duty nobly, and they thus become
