HOTEL CHURCHILL
AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN
NINTH AND C STREETS

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, ]

Later 10 p.m.

I went to the little Church and was
very [underlined] glad I did – When I thought
that you were there on Easter morning
it seemed to bring us nearer –

I found it was, just what you
had said of it, very pretty inside
and more than that – "churchly"
which means a certain dignity
and beauty that are hard to describe.

Prayers were made for the safety
and honour of our Army and Navy
and all who are in sorrow or trouble
of any kind and it was a comfort
to join in them. I deeply felt the need.
Always dear one. Your devoted mother.

R. Helen Bates.
