My dear old Snedward:

This is to wish you a Happy Birthday and
very many Happy returns of it. It has been
next to seeing you to get all those postal cards
and a fine long letter from you mailed en
route. We were also delighted to get your
telegram announcing your safe arrival at Camp
Mills. We dont know how to address you
i.e. whether to say American Expeditionary Forces.

I have left it off, as I was afraid it might
go overseas before you did. Dick has written
me to buy you and Les each a fine wrist
watch and have it suitably engraved, but I have
written him, that I had given you each one. I
telegraphed Dick on receipt of your telegram,
telling him that you had arrived Atlantic at
destination mentioned Mother's letter, so that if
he could get leave, he could go up and see you.

Mother says I cannot telegraph you or address
you at Camp Mills, as it is supposed to be secret.
There must be some mistake about that, as
surely there can be nothing wrong in knowing
where you are in the United States.

Lesley got his commission and 5 days furlough.
He came home, tried to get an extension which
was refused, so left last night on the Owl
to report back at noon today. Jos came down
from Nelson to see Les, and says he has resigned
because the bookkeeper of the Western Rice Growers
