My dear old Sned:

Just a few hurried lines to let you know
that the enclosed letter came for you yesterday from
Raymond Durney. I opened it, and Mother and
I read it, then took it over to Joe & Mrs Durney who
were very glad to be able to see it. I suppose
you will at once write to Raymond, and when
you do be sure to tell him that we appreciate
his kind rembrances of us. Also give him our
love. Jack & Ella & John slept at our house
last night. Jack & Ella went out to dinner so
John came to us, and about midnight they arrived.
It seemed strange to have five at the breakfast
table this morning instead of just Ma & Pa.

I have invited Hatch to come to lunch tomorrow
at the Club to hear Dr Willis A Parker speak on
"American Fighting Men in France". He has just
returned from the front, and I believe from the recent
battle on the Marne.

All well at home – Lots of love
always your loving father
HLA Bates
