My dear Edward:

I got your postal card of the 27th yesterday in which you say your purse with $1.25 was stolen out of your coat pocket in camp. What does Mr. Fisher think of it, and does he think it is one of the boys? I enclose you a new purse as requested. Dont leave money or valuables in camp. Always have your money in your pocket when you are out, without a safe place to keep it.

I am sending Mr. Fisher a cheque for the first two weeks as follows:

June 6th Supper to June 20 lunch – $24.00 Stage June 6 1.00 Baggage " .25 Leader box .25 4 Ideal flies .25 $25.75 [total is double-underlined]

I hope you are having fine weather and a fine time.

Your loving Father H L A Bates

you do not accuse anyone of dishonesty in regard to it without being quite certain what you are doing. You should not have left it behind dear you should have taken it along with you or left it with some of the head men. Mr. Fisher for instance. I hope you are enjoying yourself. I feel sure you are from all you have written & hope you are less nervous than you were – & that you are getting the better of the stuttering. I am sure you can.

We have had some lovely drives and rides on horseback & enjoyed them. It is hot today here. More so I think than I used to think it in Montana. The valley looks lovely. Jocelyn is well & so are the rest of us.

I was at Bozeman last week

It is an altitude of 4777 ft and is in a valley in the heart of the Rocky Mountain region. The snowy mountains all about not so closely as you are to the mountains. I suppose you will be able to come home before very long as I hope to start somewhere near the middle of July perhaps a little later than the middle. Do not start home until you get instructions to do so from either your Father or me.

A great deal of love dear to you from us all. Take good care of yourself. Your very loving Mother R. Helen Bates
