Then stocked up in tobacco for
France. Had lunch at 11:30, started
for the boat at 1:00 P.M. Saw Mrs.
Gregory, and family at the pier.
Large crowd to see their friends
off. Crafts trunk nearly got left.
I stayed off untill [until] the last to try
and get them to put it aboard. Got
balled out for being late by the
officers who said that they had
to hold the boat. One baggage
man looked at my steamer
ticket. Seven officials went
over my passport and O.K.'d
it before I could get aboard.
The Mongolia sailed just
ahead of us. Left the pier
at 3:30 P.M. among shouts
and cheers. Spent pleasant
afternoon passing out
New York Harbor and past
