Got a full car convoi
from Bazoches to Alles
below Soissons. It was
cold windy and rainy.
Passed by orchard after
orchard that the Germans
had cut down. They had
even cut rings around
the shade trees.

Tuesday August 28 '17.

Worked on the car with
"Pinkey" and on the baricks.
Had gas masks exchanged
and got orders to have
them hung by our beds
at night. Got rumor that
the U.S. had taken the
service over, and that
we would have an
oppurtunity to either
sign up for the duration
of the war or get out of
this service.
