Philip A Embury WWI Postcards

ReadAboutContentsHelp
This collection contains postcards Philip Embury sent from Europe to his future wife, Hazel Engebretsen, while stationed overseas during World War I. This collection also contains several postcards that were not mailed and contain comments and observations by Embury about the cities he visited. Embury volunteered for the American Field Service in the spring of 1917, and served on the Western front in France. He later attained a commission in the United States Army Air Service and trained as a pilot. He served in the 141st Aero Squadron with distinction and repatriated in 1919.
